Supervision for Psychotherapists & Counsellors

Clinical supervision is a professional activity that involves a practice-focused relationship between a supervisor and supervisee. The aim of this collaborative interpersonal process is to maintain and promote standards of care for the clinician by developing theoretical knowledge and skills.

My approach in supervision is based on an ecological perspective, which looks at a person’s individual experience, as well as the influence of professional, family and internal systems.

This informs my supervision work as I focus on collaborative process and working from a place of partnership.

In my supervision work with Psychologists, Counsellors and Psychotherapists, I invite supervisees to become curious about how we might move from the 'expert model' of thinking or the belief that a therapist or one person "holds" all the power for change. As a trauma-informed therapist, I encourage supervisees to explore how we might work collaboratively with our clients’ wisdom, strength and resilience.

Seeing each person as a source of their own power and as people capable of growth and transformation.

I have provided supervision and consultancy services to a range of organisations and professionals both in Australia and internationally.

My private practice work includes Counselling and Psychotherapy with individuals and facilitation of process orientated groups, delivering corporate programs and supporting training therapists.

I describe my approach as relational and deeply human and I work to recognise the wisdom inherent in all human beings.

I’m passionate about seeing people as more than their "pathology" and advocate for clinicians to look beyond a person's challenges or symptoms so they can begin to recognise the tremendous courage and resilience of the human spirit to cope with life's experiences.

What to expect from Supervision

Working with trauma means that we need skills that are both “top down” cognitive and “bottom up” somatic. In our work together I share my perspectives and ideas from my training in Internal Family Systems work, Attachment Theory, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, Poly vagal theory, the Structural Dissociation Model and Janina Fisher’s TIST model.

I believe that supervision should be a space where you can feel safe to bring the fullness of yourself and your experience without judgement.

I encourage you to bring your thoughts, reflections and ideas and to bring with you a spirit of curiosity and kindness in our work together.

Entering into trauma informed supervision is a courageous commitment to your professional growth and learning.

I believe that supervision offers us a unique opportunity to to broaden and deepen our skills regarding trauma therapy, find our own ‘growth edges’ and learn more about how trauma material influences our work with clients. Supervision can support you in working through specific issues with a client including transference/counter transference, managing vicarious trauma, learning more about the stages of trauma therapy and yourself!
